Popeyes: The Pizza Party Crashers

Alisha Kumar

It’s time to trade in your pizza for Popeyes. Let us explain. Popeyes was doing research for new opportunities and found that people think of pizza and Popeyes as both quick, easy crowd-pleasers. Also, since quarantine, a lot more Americans are eating pizza on a weekly basis, but they’re getting sick of it, so the chain found the perfect moment to swoop in, offering free delivery for family meal orders.

By simply tweeting the word “pizza” on July 8, it created hype, getting other brands along with consumers thinking that the chain would be offering a chicken pizza soon. They didn’t know what they were in for.

On July 9, the “Popeyes Pizza Party Crashers” video was released, featuring a Popeyes employee chasing after pizza deliverers who just delivered pizza and asking customers to exchange their pizza for Popeyes. You’ll have to watch the video to see what their reactions were!

Capitalizing on the time period and consumer insights, the creative minds of the GUT Miami were able to spark interest in a new way.
