In Burberry’s latest commercial, it features a new rendition of the dancing scene from the popular and classic film, Singin’ in the Rain. The creative behind this ad is how 2020 has been a turbulent year for many. Rather than undergoing these adverse situations alone, we have to help one another as we look towards a brighter future.

The clothing brand, Burberry, has built a reputation for itself to be high-quality, fashionable and most of all weatherproof. As the actors in this ad face the extremities of cold and ice falling from the sky, they deal with the situation together. Rather than being crippled by the ice chunks, they dance with ease throughout the street with a cheerful attitude.

The director, MEGAFORCE, intentionally chose youth as the protagonists in this ad because they represent a sense of hope, resilience and bravery to look towards better days. The Chief Creative Officer stated, “United by passion, commitment and love, this campaign is a celebration of their dreams, of exploring and of always going beyond." This new version of the dance scene from Singin’ in the Rain transforms an old concept into something modern, fresh, and relatable.

This ad is successful in taking a memorable moment from a classic film and creating something indicative of the times we are facing. For old movie-lovers and the older generations, it brings feelings of nostalgia. Compared to the other ads airing during the holiday season, this ad brings a sense of resilience amongst uncertainty.
