Media Sales Certificate

The College of Media at the University of Illinois offers a Media Sales Certificate for any student attending the University. Students need to turn in an application along with a short essay about why they are interested in sales in order to start the process. Most students that apply for the certificate are majoring in Advertising or Business but can be paired nicely with various other degrees. In order to receive this certificate, it is required that you take 4 classes and complete one internship (ADV 270, BTW 271, ADV 320, ADV 370, ADV 490 Sales Internship). Because an internship in an approved field might be difficult to find, students also have the option to take an independent study course with an approved faculty member, instead of completing an internship.

This is a great option for students that are interested in advertising or looking to gain knowledge about sales. Through this program, students will learn different ways to effectively negotiate, manage, and approach different media sales situations. Digital sales are likely going to be a major factor in the future of business as online transactions are becoming the norm.

From my experience, the College of Media has a great group of professors that teach engaging classes. They will work hard to prepare you for life after college, as long as you are willing to put forth the same effort. The combination of the knowledge gained and the boost of your resume from getting a Media Sales Certificate definitely makes it worth applying for.
