ADV 390: Content Creation

Bridget Ruddy

Content Creation is all about the creative side of advertising and examines the relationship between creative strategy, creative concepts, and creative executions. In ADV 390, you apply the skills you learned in ADV 283 and 284, turning strategy into creating content for traditional and non-traditional media vehicles.

ADV 390 is divided into three parts, including the business of advertising creativity, copywriting and art direction, and then applying both those parts to various advertising media. The course begins by examining what is meant by “creativity” and situating it within the changing world. This course will give you experience in the preparation of creative strategies and teach you how to develop ads for various media.

This class is challenging yet rewarding. I felt like I learned a lot about the advertising industry and the tactics it takes to be successful. Peter Sheldon is an excellent teacher and makes the lecture very enjoyable. It is obvious he knows what he is talking about. Although he is a tough teacher, he is preparing you for what it is going to be like in the real world.

If you are thinking about going into the creative side of advertising, you will want to take this class. You will learn about the roles of an advertising team and what is expected from each role, specifically the activities and issues that an art director or copywriter deal with on a daily basis. This course does not teach you about what leads to a job as a copywriter or an art director, but it will give you an understanding of the roles and the practices they’re in.
